Audits of COSCO Group head office's sustainable development management system and the Sustainable Development Report of COSCO Group were completed successfully on Nov. 7-Nov. 11, 2006. The Sustainable Development Report 2005 of COSCO Group has created Five Firsts.

COSCO Group head office had established modern enterprise management system and compiled the Sustainable Development Report 2005 of COSCO Group based on ISO9000: Standards of Quality Management System 2000, ISO14000: International Standards of Environment Management System 2004 and OHSAS18000 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, and ISO17799/ISO27001 Information Security Management System, and according to AS4360: 1999/COSCO Risk Management Framework, and the Guidelines on Social Responsibility Management System of Global Compact and GRI Requirements on Sustainable Development Report System. So far, the modern enterprise management system of COSCO Group head office has passed the quality certification of the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the China Classification Society, and the joint certification of ISO9001 Quality Management System 2000, ISO14001 Environmental Management System 2004 and OHSAS18000 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. At the same time, China Office of Global Compact Office of the United Nations and DNV has audited the Sustainable Development Report of COSCO Group.

Members of the joint certification team unanimously believe that the modern enterprise management system of COSCO Group head office is effective in ensuring the fulfillment of sustainable development strategy and the Sustainable Development Report 2005 of COSCO Group has been complied in accordance with GRI requirements. COSCO Group has established data collection and information processing system for sustainable development report and has required all its second-tier companies to join the sustainable development management system. COSCO Group head office and second-tier companies will establish a scientific platform to improve the sustainable development management system and the overall level of sustainable development report in the future.

COSCO Group is the first state-owned enterprise that compiled sustainable development report according to GRI reports. It is the first enterprise in the world that compiled its report according to GRI2006, the latest version of GRI. It is the first Chinese enterprise that implemented Global Compact and established the management system on sustainable development, which has been certificated. What's more, it is the first Chinese enterprise that has its sustainable development report audited. It is also the first enterprise in Asia that applied the VeriSustain approval standards in auditing.
