Risk and environmental management work
Background
We were employed by Saipem (part of the Eni Group) and Nexans Norway (part of the Nexans Group) as the HSE Contractor of three subsea pipelines and two subsea umbilicals, respectively. Contractual obligations by Dolphin Energy Ltd, the project operator, set out to manage HSE issues through a rigorous process of documentation, stakeholder engagement, operator/contractor/subcontractor input and reviews, regulatory compliance and implementation. Certain project obligations also needed specialist know-how to deliver (e.g. green turtle nesting and hatching monitoring).
What we did
ERM provided the Risk and Environmental Management support for the projects' activities both in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. The work, won by ERM Italy (Saipem) and ERM Middle East (Nexans), has involved the secondment of a 12 people from the ERM Italy, Hong Kong, UK and Malaysia offices at varying times throughout the projects. The Saipem project started in May 2004 and it will finish at the end of 2006. The Nexans project started in December 2005 and it will finish at the end of September 2006.
Benefits
We guided the clients through the local regulatory compliance maze (eg Project Environmental Permit requirements) and the Operator's HSE contractual obligations (eg HSE Case) of in order to keep the project's construction schedule in tact.
