Luxembourg,
6 March 2008 - ArcelorMittal today holds its second worldwide Health and Safety
Day. Hundreds of plants and operations around the world participate in this
internal effort to promote Health and Safety as the number one operational
priority for every staff member. The aim of this day is to highlight the
importance given by ArcelorMittal to Health and Safety, by involving all staff
in discussing safety improvements, new targets and associated safety programs at
Group as well as plant level.

This year’s
H&S Day theme is "Together a step forward". It is based on three
pillars:
- Fair
play
- Leading by
example
- Training
and sharing
In
China, the H&S day takes
place respectively on March 5 and 6 in Beijing
and Shanghai office, as
well as in Changzhou, Rongcheng wire drawing, and other
sites in the region. In addition to the corporate video
projection, a presentation on the Overview Safety Results 2007 & Action plan
2008 is given by Dirk Matthys, CEO of ArcelorMittal in
China.
SOS International
will introduce basic H&S measures on topics such as stress management and
travelers’ health. The members of the China H&S team are actively involved
in training, and sharing information and guidelines.

Members of
the Group Management Board (GMB) and the Management Committee will visit a
number of sites around the world, to participate in awareness activities
organised around these topics.
The
ArcelorMittal GMB highlighted the excellent achievements obtained last year,
which materialised in a significant reduction of Group-wide frequency rate* to
2.7 for the last quarter of 2007, in line with the Group objective. At the same
time, the GMB recognised that the high number of fatalities recorded last year
was unacceptable, as was the tragic accident occurred in January at the
Abaiskaya mine in Kazakhstan, which cost the lives of
30 employees.
Lakshmi
Mittal, CEO and President, said: "ArcelorMittal is fully committed to continue
to create safer conditions everywhere. Leading by example means committing
personally to H&S rules and regulations globally and in our specific
workplaces. It means committing personally to daily efforts towards improving
H&S performance. I expect our second Health and Safety Day to help a great
deal in disseminating these ideas and principles at all levels of our
organisation."
