EPA: Toxic pollution fell 6 percent in 2003

WASHINGTON The Environmental Protection Agency says Toxic pollution dropped six percent in 2003.
The decrease is partly due to metal mining's 18-percent drop in releases from the previous year.
But E-P-A says the level of mercury, P-C-B's and dioxin rose, and the number of facilities reporting information fell for the third time since 2001.
Environmentalists expressed concern at the increases in three chemicals that do not easily degrade and work their way up the food chain
