A professor in Universiti Malaya has invented bricks made from electronics waste, Malaysia Nanban reported. It is an environment-friendly invention which helps factories to dispose of their waste without causing pollution, the paper said in a special report on the research of Prof Dr P. Angamuthu, who is from the university抯 engineering faculty. He had won a gold medal at a recent invention exhibition in Geneva for the product. The paper said in his studies, Dr Angamuthu considered practices that caused pollution, such as burning and burying waste products, and pollution-free practices like recycling. His bricks are made from waste materials that had been crushed into powder and mixed with cement. The mixture is poured into brick moulds. The paper said waste from electronic factories contains chemicals that can produce poisonous gas. The factories pay as much as RM4,000 everytime they need to dispose of these wastes, the paper reported. With the new invention, electronics factories could reduce their expenditure on waste disposal. On another matter, the daily said the Government has given the green light to textile shop owners in Malaysia to bring in about 1,500 foreign workers from India. Malaysian Indian Textile Shop Owners?Association president P.S. Rajah was quoted as saying that its 500 members would benefit from this ruling.
