China will make efforts to develop a "recycling economy," to tackle the steady rise in demands for energy resources. The recycling economy, with priorities to "reduce, re-use and recycle," aims to promote more efficient use of energy and natural resources. A State Council meeting chaired by Premier Wen JiabaoTuesday in Beijing highlighted the importance of establishing a conservation-minded society. It also pointed out that priority should be given to frugality in tapping resources. China has witnessed rapid economic growth over the past two decades. However, such growth is accompanied by a high consumption of natural resources and serious pollution. The Chinese government has put the development of a recycling economy high on its agenda in order to achieve sustainable development.
