Capital hits recycling targets

NATIONAL recycling targets have been hit in Edinburgh for the first time. New figures show the amount of household and commercial waste being recycled has reached 28 per cent - 3 per cent higher than standards set by the Executive.

The breakthrough was achieved in June, following a massive roll-out of new kerbside collections and facilities. Recycling facilities for high-rise flats and tenements, and overhauling waste dumps as recycling centres, are planned.
