CHICAGO -- People in the Chicago area and northwest Indiana who are sensitive to high levels of air pollution should be on alert Monday, officials said.
The day has been declared an Air Pollution Action Day by the Partners for Clean Air and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
Residents should be aware that low winds and high temperatures have the potential to produce elevated pollution levels that could cause a health hazard, officials said. Monday is the 10th Air Pollution Action Day of the summer.
During such days, residents are asked to reduce their contributions to ozone and particulate-matter pollution by walking, biking or taking public transportation.
