Syria opens the first center to cut industrial pollution

A Center to cut industrial pollution was opened yesterday in Old Damascus city to spread awareness among industrialist and increase their ability to deal with pollution.

A celebration was held in cooperation with the Syrian Society of Environment and Damascus Directorate of Industry as well the ESCWA at the society headquarters in old city.

"This center is to spread awareness among industrialists and habilitate them to increase their qualification in dealing with the industrial pollution," the center director Jamal Qonbiyeh said in a speech.

The center will train industrialists on application of preventive procedures to cut pollution in raw materials and during the productive process. He noted that the center plan was to cooperate with all local parties that enjoy training expertise and in a way that serves the center noting the first of these training courses will start next month.

Damascus governor Mohammed Bashar al-Mufti pointed out at what has been exerted of efforts in fields of environment protection and sustainable development which are accompanied with what Syria is seeing on all levels noting that Damascus governorate is considered the first Syrian area that owns facility to convert hard waste into fertilizers.
