OMAHA, Neb. -- Computer recycling may see more regulation under a bill before the Nebraska Legislature. Sen. Don Preister is proposing a new law that is aimed at computer manufacturers. Under the proposal, they would have to make sure the computers are not thrown out, and would be required to pay for recycling collection centers. The equipment contains mercury, lead and other dangerous materials and can't be put in landfills. If passed, the new law would begin in July of next year. Some stores, such as Nebraska Furniture Mart already offer recycling programs. Depending on the model, you could even get paid for the computer.
