HONOLULU -- Honolulu's new
curbside-recycling program begins on Wednesday. It starts with green
waste.
Residents in parts of Mililani,
Mililani Mauka and Waimanalo will be the first to get the curbside
pick up on Wednesday morning.
Residents will be able to dump their green waste into the
city-provided blue recycling bins.
Trucks will take the green waste to a
private company called Hawaiian Earth Products, where the waste will
be turned into mulch and soil products.
Some 50,000 recycling bins have sat
idle in garages from Mililani to Waimanalo since legal concerns
prompted the cancellation of the curbside pick up of household
recyclables.
