Metito calls for efficient integration of advanced technologies with recycling facilities to achieve economies of scale

In his presentation on 'Advanced Wastewater Reuse Incorporating Innovation' on March 6, 2006 at the 'IDA 2nd Dubai International Water Forum "Innovation and Integration - Impact on Desalination and Water Reuse Costs" in Dubai, Bassem Halabi, Group Business Development Director, Metito stated that such integration of innovative technologies in the water reuse industry can offer improved economics to the end-user.

The IDA 2nd Dubai International Water Forum is a two-day management and technical conference on March 5-6, 2006, which brings experts, scientists, engineers and decision-makers from all over the world for an in-depth examination of how new technologies can be successfully incorporated in the water management and development programmes.

'This year's forum is directed at increasing awareness of recent innovations in desalination and water reuse technologies and applications, which have direct impact on the cost of building and operating these facilities,' Mr. Halabi said.

'As desalination and water reuse expansion continues at a rapid pace in the Middle East, these innovations must be integrated into the next generation of water facilities in order to maximize the return on investment and improve the overall long-term economics of the projects,'

Mr. Halabi added.

It is worth mentioning that Metito is in the process of upgrading its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at The Greens, using an innovative approach. This enables the company to upgrade the plant capacity from 3,000m³/day to 10,000M³/day without interrupting operation. The new plant can supply to both Emirates Hills and The Greens, and will produce high quality treated effluent suitable for unrestricted irrigation.

Metito is an active participant in all International Desalination Association (IDA) programmes. IDA is committed to the development and promotion of the appropriate use of desalination and desalination technology world-wide. Associated with the United Nations as part of a growing international network of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), IDA is a non-profit association of over 1000 members in 58 countries.
