China willing to protect boundary river resources with Russia

China is ready to work with Russia in strengthening bilateral cooperation in protecting water resources along China-Russia boundary river, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang said here Thursday.

Li said through regular meetings of two heads of state, China and Russia will exchange information and keep negotiation in an effort to prevent pollution in the boundary river and benefit peoples of the two countries.

The Chinese government attaches importance to environmental protection, and the watershed rehabilitation project of China's northeastern Songhua River has been listed in the 11th Five-Year-Plan period (2006-2010), Li said.

The Songhua River pollution incident last November had exerted negative impact, Li said. He spoke highly of Russia's understanding and cooperation in handling the incident.
