The Copenhagen summit is coming soon. Yesterday, in a warm up to it, the forum on energy saving and emission reductions for climate change was jointly held by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Finance (MOF), and Ministry of Environmental Protection etc..

Officials from related departments stated China's position on international climate negotiations, and elaborated on ideas for the promotion of energy-saving and emission reductions in the future.

Wang Yi, vice director of Institute of Policy and Management, Chinese Academy of Sciences, released that NDRC was drafting guidance on low-carbon economy, would define the concept of it and make a plan for the development of China's low-carbon economy.

Due to the increasing pressure of climate change, developing emerging industry with low energy consumption and emission is a must. The government will vigorously develop emerging industries in the future, said relevant authorities.

"In the development of new strategic industries, we choose new energy, renewable energy, and non-fossil energy as the future direction of development in the energy field; in the transport sector, we choose to focus on electric vehicles for development; and we determine the smart grid and related technologies as key points in the information sector," said, Wan Gang, minister of MOS.

In order to promote the emerging industries above, renewable energy technologies, energy-saving and emission reduction technologies, clean coal technology and nuclear power technology will also become the focus of science and technology.

Ding Yihui, academician from China Meteorological Administration (CMA), expressed that developed nations had crowded developing countries out of emission space, which was an enormous challenge toward China's economic development, hence, low-carbon economy and industry was inevitable for China.

Several policies for promoting the development of energy-saving and environmental protection industry would be forthcoming recently, released He Bingguang, inspector of Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of NDRC.
