China will further beef up energy saving and emission reduction work to counter the global climate change problem, a senior official said Thursday.
Xie Zhenhua, vice minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said the country would enhance the work through innovations of technology and mechanism as well as the implementation of responsibility system.
Xie made the remarks when addressing a forum about reactions to the global climate change held here from Thursday to Friday, which was joined by over 600 representatives from government departments, embassies, international organizations and enterprises.
He called for innovations in clean coal technology, nuclear power usage, energy saving in buildings, new energy vehicles and carbon capture and storage technologies.
Meanwhile, China should participate actively in negotiations on global climate change issue, and launch all-round cooperation with other countries, Xie said.
Right now the country is promoting cooperation between members joining next month's Copenhagen Summit, in order to obtain positive results, he said.
Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang, said at the forum that Chinese government had arranged more than 10 billion yuan ($ 1.5 billion) during the 11th five-year plan period (2006-2010) for the research of science and technology for the country's energy saving and emission reduction work.
