Björn Stigson, WBCSD, honored for contributions to China’s sustainable development strategy

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) today announcedthat Björn Stigson, President, WBCSD, has been honored with an Outstanding Contribution Award by the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

 

Stigson has been contributing to the development of China’s sustainable development strategy through the CCICED since 1995, in particular on Enterprise Development and China’s pathway to a low carbon economy. The CCICED is a high-level body to the China State Council (the Cabinet) promoting the coordinated development of the economy and environment. It is made up of leading international and Chinese experts on environmental and economic strategy.

 

Stigson said: “China is today leading the global Green Race for resource efficient, low polluting products and services, and its 12th five year plan is a game plan to win this race. The CCICED has dedicated itself to promoting sustainable development in China and has been steadfast in its proposals in this direction. I am delighted to have worked with them and look forward to continuing my work with this important organization in the future.”

 

The award was presented at the CCICED 20th Anniversary Open Forum in Beijing, which followed its Annual General Meeting. As part of the events, the international participants called on Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao who addressed them at a special session. Mr. Li Keqiang, Vice Premier of the State Council of China and Chairperson of the CCICED also addressed the participants at the start of the Annual General Meeting. This year’s meeting theme was Economic Development Mode: Green Transformation.
