Geneva,
February 6, 2012 - Former WBCSD President Bjorn Stigson was awarded the Lifetime
Achievement Award at the recent 12th Delhi Sustainable Development
Summit.
This
award was presented as part of the fourth Green Globe Awards ceremony to
recognize the efforts of those unsung heroes who have contributed to sustainable
development. Award recipients were listed under several categories including
business, NGO, government and media category.
The
award was handed over by Dr. RK Pachauri, Director General of The Energy and
Resources Institute (TERI) and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC). He highlighted Stigson’s numerous achievements during
17years at the lead of the WBCSD, during which the organization became the
leading business promoter of sustainable development.
Receiving
the award, Stigson reiterated his commitment to continue working for a more
sustainable future, even after receiving a “lifetime
award.”
The
2012 DSDS brought together prominent representatives from business, governments
and other organizations from India and across the world to discuss how future
economic growth could be better balanced with the limits imposed by the earth’s
resources in order to allow a transition toward a green economy. This year’s
theme was “Protecting the global commons: 20 years post
Rio.”
