Geneva, February 6, 2012 - Former WBCSD President Bjorn Stigson was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit.

This award was presented as part of the fourth Green Globe Awards ceremony to recognize the efforts of those unsung heroes who have contributed to sustainable development. Award recipients were listed under several categories including business, NGO, government and media category.

The award was handed over by Dr. RK Pachauri, Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He highlighted Stigson’s numerous achievements during 17years at the lead of the WBCSD, during which the organization became the leading business promoter of sustainable development.

Receiving the award, Stigson reiterated his commitment to continue working for a more sustainable future, even after receiving a “lifetime award.”

The 2012 DSDS brought together prominent representatives from business, governments and other organizations from India and across the world to discuss how future economic growth could be better balanced with the limits imposed by the earth’s resources in order to allow a transition toward a green economy. This year’s theme was “Protecting the global commons: 20 years post Rio.”
