Zhai Qi, CBCSD Executive Secretary: City planning should avoid single mode

ON September 10th, on sub-forum of case study under China City Infrastructure Forum, Mr. Zhai Qi, the Executive Secretary of CBCSD, says that city planning should be based on local conditionals and single mode of city planning should not be adopted among different cities.
On the sub-forum, experts made analysis on city planning cases with Yixing City in Jiangsu Province as an example. It is introduced that led by World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), 14 infrastructure construction enterprises including Siemens together made city sustainable development city planning for Yixing City.
“In Yixing City, farm land and forest connect the main urban area and satellite towns and living area, business area and entertainment area are on a reasonable distribution with its own emphasis”, says Zhai. In his view, in this city developing planning customizing for Yixing City, the greatest advantage is clear urban area division with different functions.
He also remarks that the reason for some domestic cities always adopt same model when they make city planning is that they ignore the difference in economic development characteristics and industry setting among different cities.
Zhai tells that the urban area expansion is the overall trend for Chongqing while the limitation brought by mountain landscape on the expansion of urban land should be taken into consideration. He suggests that Chongqing city planning should contain construction of clear transportation network formed by railways and road bridges connecting main urban area and towns around so that Chongqing’s economic development suffers no limitation.
