BEIJING… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation and China WTO Tribune, a publication under the Ministry of Commerce of China, today co-hosted the Energy Evolution: Achieving Sustainable Urbanization in China symposium in Beijing. As a sub-forum of the “Seventh International CSR Forum” on the day, the symposium showcased Eaton lead the discussion on the importance of efficient power management on digital economy and sustainable urbanization in China, and how concerted efforts are needed to address tough energy challenges among public-sector, business, and academic leaders.

“The soaring urbanization trend in China has created huge demand for energy, and also brought unprecedented challenges to energy companies and industrial manufacturers like Eaton,” said Erbing Shang, President of Eaton China, “ It has become a consensus that we make concerted efforts to strive for  maximum energy efficiency in order to make the urbanization and economic and social development more sustainable. As an industry leader in power management, Eaton is well positioned to partner with companies and organizations to make joint efforts to promote the innovative and energy-efficient technologies and solutions.”

Statistics show that data centers account for about 40% of the total energy consumption of global IT industry, and they also consume an estimated 1.3 percent of all electricity use in the world. In China, data centers consumed 70 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2011 -- 5% of all electricity use in the country. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information has required in the “Industrial Energy Saving Plan for 12th Five-Year Plan” that by 2015, data centers in China must reduce their power usage effectiveness (PUE) rate by 8%.As a pioneer of the diversified power management, Eaton embraces comprehensive green solutions with high reliability and energy efficiency for mission-critical data centers in telecommunications, medical, financial services and transportationindustries.

Eaton organized its series of Energy Symposiums in China since 2011 to prepare people and corporations for the challenges and opportunities that come from embracing a culture of sustainability and energy conservation. The practice was echoing the company’s participation of “Golden Bee CSR 2020 Initiative” launched by China WTO Tribune in 2011 in order to promote cooperation and common action among various corporations, organizations and countries to push forward more corporations into CSR practices.

Underscoring Eaton’s sustainability efforts in China, the company today officially issued its China Sustainability Report 2011. It is Eaton’s fourth annual sustainability report in China, detailing major progress achieved in areas such as energy conservation, environmental protection, employee health and safety performance and community investment and enrichment.
