Chengdu – Bosch, a leading global supplier of technology and services, today officially announces the opening of a new plant in Chengdu in West China for the production of safety technology. Bosch Automotive Products (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. will be the second manufacturing site of Bosch’s Chassis Systems Control division in the country next to the location in Suzhou. “China has been recognized as the worldwide largest automotive market for the third year. With increasing awareness of road safety, there is also an increasing demand for safe automotive technologies in China, like in all other regions of the developed world,” said Dr. Dirk Hoheisel, member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH, with responsibility for Chassis System Control. “Our new plant in Chengdu underlines our strong confidence in the Chinese market and also enables Bosch to meet the demand of customers in mid-west China with faster response and better service,” he added.
Taking up 127,000 square meters in Chengdu Economical & Technical Development Zone, the total investment into the manufacturing site amounts up to CNY 880 million and its first phase has been completed with a total spending of CNY 287 million. The new plant started the production of wheel speed sensor in 2013 and will produce Antilock Braking System ABS and Electronic Stability Program ESP® in 2014.
Strengthened presence of Bosch Chassis System Control in China
Along with the manufacturing site in Suzhou, Bosch Chassis Systems Control has expanded its presence in the Chinese market. “We are continuously strengthening the local competence of Bosch Chassis Systems Control in China, from local production to local research and development,” said Gerhard Steiger, president of the Bosch Chassis Systems Control division. “All these efforts allow us better serve the Chinese automotive market with safety and comfort solutions.”
Since its entry into China in 2002, Bosch Chassis Systems Control has been committed to road safety and comfort in the country by providing various advanced products and technologies in the areas of Active Safety, Passive Safety, Actuation and Driver Assistance Systems. The division’s headquarters in China is located in Suzhou and consists of a manufacturing plant and an engineering center. As a part of its localization efforts, the division inaugurated a proving ground (test track) for Active Safety technologies and Driver Assistance systems in Donghai last month. Next to the test center in Donghai, the division also has a winter testing center in Yakeshi in Inner Mongolia since 2008.
