On 22nd, Nov., a severe blast due to leakage of Sinopec oil pipeline occurred in Qingdao Development Zone which caused 62 deaths and over 100 injures. Sinopec set up a command on site to handle the accident immediately by launching the Level 1 National Disaster Response. Chairman of Sinopec, Fu Chengyu went there right after the accident and apologized to the people of Qingdao and the whole country on behalf of Sinopec. He instructed that Sinopec spare no efforts in rescue and relief work. HE President Xi Jinping arrived in the city on 24th, Nov. to inspect ongoing rescue efforts and emphasized that safe production responsibility system has to be integrated and well implemented.
The headquarters of Sinopec and over 100 subsidiaries held the silent tribute simultaneously on 28th, Nov., to express the deep condolence all Sinopec staff to the victims of the oil leak and blast accident on 22nd, Nov. and this date is set to be Sinopec’s Production Safety Day as a memory to the victims.
