Baosteel independently develops the strongest domestic automobile steel! The first complete bodywork released

Baosteel released a body in white (BIW) for the first time in Zhanjiang on November 12. The greatest feature is that it largely adopts the latest high-strength automobile steel researched and developed by Baosteel. BIW means the bodywork excluding door and cover, and usually is the first procedure of new vehicle model design by an automobile factory. It is the first time for a steel factory to carry out independent BIW R&D in the domestic steel industry. With a high-strength steel usage rate of 78%, the safety, comfort and light weight have reached the international advanced level. The bumper uses special steel with a strength of 1,800 MPa. It is known that Baosteel invested RMB 40 million to complete the BIW design, manufacture and welding. The labor cost is not included in the expense.
