On October 29, the European Union (EU) announced the provision of aid funds totaling Euro 350 million for less developed countries over the next five years to address the challenges brought about by climate change. The initiative marks that the EU-initiated “Global Climate Change Alliance” has entered into a new stage, and is expected to inject new vitality into the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Paris. The “Global Climate Change Alliance” was initiated and established by the EU in 2007 for the purpose of providing a platform for dialogues and mutual cooperation regarding addressing climate change, preventing and reducing disasters and other aspects for EU and developing countries, especially for the most underdeveloped countries and small island developing countries.
