BASF strengthens dialogue with local communities at Shanghai Pudong site
  • New members of Shanghai Community Advisory Panel (CAP) elected
  • Demonstrates long-term commitment to communities at Shanghai Pudong site
  • Two-way communication fosters mutual trust between BASF and the neighbors

The new term of BASF’s Shanghai Community Advisory Panel (CAP) officially began today at the company’s Shanghai Pudong site, part of a long-standing program to support open and transparent dialogue with the local communities. Selected from more than 160 applicants from nearby villages and neighborhoods, the 19 new members of the Shanghai CAP will share feedback, best practices, updates and ideas to foster collaboration between the company and local residents.

"Since our site in Pudong began operation in 1994, we have made a continuous effort to stay in open and transparent dialogue with our neighbors. Communicating and collaborating with the community helps us contribute to a harmonious society and a sustainable future,” said Dr. Stephan Kothrade, President and Chairman of BASF Greater China following the new group's first meeting today.

Recruited through online notices and public posters, the new members come from diversified backgrounds, including a teacher, a doctor and members of non-governmental organization. During the first meeting, the CAP members reviewed site operation status, environmental and safety performance, community outreach programs, and the expansion of the Innovation Campus Asia Pacific (Shanghai).

“I visited BASF in the past as a teacher for their sponsored student science education programs. This time I represent the whole community, to enhance communications and relations between BASF and its neighbors. We look forward to working closely with BASF for the welfare of the community we live in,” said Ms. Sun Weilan, Deputy Principal of Gaoqiao middle school who was elected at the meeting as the CAP chairman.

BASF supports many Community Advisory Panel (CAP)s around its larger production sites worldwide. Members of CAPs are elected from the local communities to regularly and openly discuss the common issues of mutual interest with the management of BASF. In addition to the CAP in Shanghai, BASF also supports CAPs in Nanjing, Chongqing and Taiwan across Greater China.
