2019 Automotive Enterprise Green Development Index Released

(Beijing) On December 20th, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center officially released the “2019 Automotive Enterprise Green Development Index” commissioned by the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The index is the first in China to evaluate the transparency of information related to the auto industry’s green development and assess the industry’s level of green development. The evaluation involves 85 enterprises that manufacture more than 1,000 units of passenger cars each year. According to the index, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. (“BMW Brilliance”) ranks first with an index value of 80.21.
The “Automotive Enterprise Green Development Index” aims to promote the green development of the auto industry by helping automotive enterprises establish good information disclosure and transparency practices, set up green risk prevention mechanisms and implement targeted green improvements. The factors that determine the index value are dependent on three aspects of an enterprise’s information disclosure: quantity, quality, and energy conservation and environmental improvement. BMW Brilliance ranks first in this first Green Development Index, evidence of its constant commitment to sustainable development and contributions to the green development of the auto industry.
As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, BMW Brilliance integrated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its business for the first time and actively fulfilled its social responsibilities to achieve the SDGs. Upholding the vision to be the leading sustainable provider of premium individual mobility across the entire value chain of China’s automotive industry, BMW Brilliance has achieved significant results across its three main pillars: Products and Services, Production and Value Creation, and Employees and Society.

Setting an Example for Green and Smart Manufacturing
BMW Brilliance is a role model for green and smart manufacturing. All vehicles are manufactured using Industry 4.0 technologies and eco-efficient production processes - efforts that won BMW Brilliance the National Green Plant Award. BMW Brilliance is also a role model for “Intelligent Manufacturing in China”. Both Dadong and Tiexi have developed highly flexible production lines capable of producing traditional combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles on the same assembly line.
By increasing its own renewable power generation capacity and purchasing wind power, BMW Brilliance’s CO2 emission free electricity consumption reached 43% in 2018, and forecast to reach 90% in 2019. At the same time, the continuous increase of logistics efficiency is also an important representation of its green production. By continuously optimizing the multimodal transport scheme and increasing the use of shipping and railway transportation, BMW Brilliance has reduced CO2 emissions per car in finished vehicle logistics by 43% since 2014.
While promoting its own sustainable development, BMW Brilliance also actively engages suppliers to implement responsible and sustainable production. In 2018, BMW Brilliance intensified the risk management of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS). By implementing the new EHS Protection Agency (EPA) initiative, BMW Brilliance extended its risk management of the supply chain to N-tier suppliers, expanded the depth and breadth of supplier management, assisted the sustainable development of suppliers, and realized a win-win strategy across the value chain.
