Shell forms joint venture in China for hydrogen project

This includes a 20-megawatt electrolyser that will produce green hydrogen from renewable power.

This joint venture, with Zhangjiakou City Transport, intends to advance the development of hydrogen and clean energy in the region and supply refuelling stations in Zhangjiakou, one of the co-hosts of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

It marks another step in our mission to find low-carbon and #renewable energy solutions to serve more of our customers, while progressing Shell on its own ambition to be a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 or sooner.

Zhang Xinsheng, Executive Chairman of Shell Companies in China said: “Hydrogen plays an important role in energy transition. Zhangjiakou City has established a rather complete policy guarantee system for hydrogen development, and the rich renewable energy resources here can provide the electricity needed for zero-carbon hydrogen production, supplying clean energy safely in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This is the first commercial project for Shell Hydrogen in China. We are proud to be supporting projects like this, which align with China’s 2060 carbon-neutral ambition.”
