Use trade policy to achieve the benefits of low emission development

Trade and climate change are inextricably linked. Trade and trade policies can contribute to shifting to a low emission economy by enabling more efficient use of resources and international exchange of climate friendly goods and services. The transition to a low emission economy, in turn, can also benefit trade and thus contribute to growth and development.

This brief discusses the trade and climate change interface to show how supportive trade and climate policy frameworks can benefit climate action and low emission development. It was produced in partnership with the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and is part of the LEDS in Practice series, which gives an overview of selected benefits and development goals linked to low emission development strategies (LEDS) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
