Minister Li Ganjie met with UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment Vidar Helgesen, and former Swedish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate and Environment Asa Romson. 

Li extended welcome to the delegation headed by Administrator Steiner for their presence at the 2017 annual general meeting of CCICED. He said, the Chinese Government has highly valued ecological conservation, and actively taken part in global environmental governance. It has learned and introduced the international experience, technologies and equipment to improve environmental quality, shared China’s philosophies and programmes, and made due contributions to the regional and global environmental cooperation. He hoped the two sides would continue cooperation and make contributions to promoting the building of ecological civilization in China and in the world as a whole.

Steiner highly appreciated China’s achievements in preserving the ecological environment, and vowed that UNDP would support China’s ecological initiatives as always, and is ready to work with Chinese side to facilitate the international cooperation on the building of ecological civilization and establishing the Belt and Road green alliance.

In his meeting with Helgesen, Li said China and Norway have conducted vast and profound cooperation in the environment field. He hoped Norway would support China’s environmental undertaking as always.

Helgesen applauded China’s effects in ecological conservation and reiterated the willingness of Norwegian side to continue with the bilateral environmental cooperation.

In his meeting with Romson, Li said the 19th National Congress of the CPC has placed the building of ecological civilization and the conservation of the ecological environment at a more strategic position, and come up with a raft of new reforms, philosophies, requirements, objectives, and plans, which ushered China’s ecological conservation undertaking into a new era. As a major partner, Sweden has maintained long-term, good relationship with China. Sweden owns a plethora of practices and experiences that China can learn in terms of sustainable development. He hoped the two sides would deepen the pragmatic cooperation on air, water, and soil pollution control.

Romson responded that Sweden appreciates its bilateral ties with China and will always support China’s ecological initiatives.
