The 2019 Guangzhou World Youth Environmental Protection Conference and the 3rd UN China Youth Environmental Forum opened in Guangzhou on July 14, focusing on sustainable consumption and production.
About 200 teenagers coming from China, Britain, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries and regions attended the conference.
During the opening ceremony, the sponsors invited Qu Hongshan, an inheritor of Lingnan Chinese zither, to stage a performance for the participants, who will go to Guangzhou's Beijing Road to experience more intangible cultural heritages the next day.
The spokesperson of the 2018 conference also appeared at the site, sharing her good deeds of environmental protection with the teenagers.
From July 15 to 17, conferees will take part in a series of activities including experiencing intangible cultural heritage, conducting thematic research, and displaying environmental protection conceptions. The United Nations Environment Programme in China will also invite experts in the field of environmental protection to interact and communicate with the participants during the forum. A new spokesperson of 2019 will be selected who will represent the teenagers worldwide to put forward new proposals for environmental protection and sustainable development on the international stage.
