3rd International High-Level Forum on Sustainable Urban Development, July 2019, Chengdu

Since reform and opening up, China has witnessed the world’s largest and fastest urbanization process in history, which not only propelled extraordinary national economic growth and prosperity, but also contributed to the development of world economy. It’s a common desire for cities and countries to promote sustainable urban development so as to build a more vigorous, creative, inclusive and sustainable global economy.

During the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in May, 2019, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme(UN-Habitat) and China signed the joint initiative to host the International High-level Forum on Sustainable Urban Development, as the only one international forum in their cooperation. Held for two successive sessions in 2017 and 2018 in Chengdu, the previous Forums have gained a strong reputation as the place to be, to discuss the best practices in cities among the Belt and Road countries and the challenges and opportunities faced by the New-type Urbanization.

Under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Third International High-Level Forum on Sustainable Urban Development is
convened by China Center for Urban Development (CCUD) and UN-Habitat and
generously hosted by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government on July 15-17, 2019 in Chengdu. The Forum themed by “Dialogue with the World for Green Development”, will again convene domestic and overseas city representatives, experts and business representatives to focus on the themes of garden city, child-friendly city, regional development, urban-rural integration, green finance, resilience, etc. The overriding aim is to achieving the targets of the 2030 Sustainable development Agenda, including contributing to global green development. We are committed to open development along the Belt and Road.

During the Forum, The First Belt and Road Sustainable Cities Alliance Roundtable will be held. The Alliance provides a mechanism for expanding best practices in sustainable urban development and builds a platform for the exchange among governments, cities and enterprises. In the same vein, the Third International Conference on Canadian, Chinese and African Sustainable Urbanization will be held in parallel during the Forum.

High-level policymakers, urban managers, leading experts, entrepreneurs and senior
media professionals at home and abroad will be invited to the Forum
