The 2019 Taiyuan Energy Low-carbon Development Forum officially opened in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, on Oct 22, according to the organizers.
The Oct 22-24 forum is being sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, the National Energy Administration and the Shanxi Provincial Government.
The forum has as its theme the energy revolution and international cooperation and consists of an opening ceremony and summit, a world energy revolution exhibition and six sub-forums.
Attending the summit were some 500 foreign politicians, heads of United Nations agencies and international organizations and senior officials of related government departments at the provincial and national level.
Others attending included scientists in the international energy field and corporate executives. Organizers said they attended the summit to discuss the energy revolution plan, energy cooperation and the green development of energy.
The World Energy Revolution Exhibition is ongoing at the China (Taiyuan) Coal Transaction Center. The exhibition area covers an area of 20,000 square meters and is divided into a themed exhibition area and a company exhibition area.
The themed exhibition area mainly displays the strategic thinking and achievements of China's 'energy revolution', the development of international energy transformation, leading technologies, future energy use scenarios and Shanxi's responsibilities as a leader in the energy revolution.
The six sub-forums cover the clean and efficient use of coal energy, the application of unconventional natural gas and the innovation and development of the energy internet, among others. They will also discuss bottlenecks in new energy development, cover the safe use of nuclear energy and the prospect of nuclear industry development, and the future of hydrogen energy.
The forums aim to offer a communications and cooperation platform to promote global energy reform, address the challenges of climate change and implement UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals -- as well as further pilot reform of the comprehensive 'energy revolution' in Shanxi province.
