Dr. Hu Maoyuan, senior economist and senior engineer, was born in 1951 in Shanghai. He began his career in the automotive industry in 1968 and became a member of the Communist Party of China in 1980. Since Feb. 1983, he has served as the managing director of Shanghai Tractor Plant, vice president and president of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. During that period, he concurrently served as the president of Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the first president of Shanghai General Motors Co., Ltd.
A veteran in automotive industry in Shanghai, Dr. Hu Maoyuan has been involved in manufacturing, operations management and international cooperation. He has initiated some advanced corporate management concepts such as Zero-defect Management, Integrated Management, SAIC Corporate Values, 4S cooperation concept and is the author of Dialogue with the World, a fable story book which interprets SAIC corporate cultures. Dr Hu Maoyuan has been awarded such honors as State Model Worker, State Advanced Individual in Quality Management, Excellent Party Member of Shanghai Municipality, Master of Operation and Management in Machinery Industry, CCTV Award for People of Economy.
