The 6th World Economic and Environmental Conference, Nov 28-30, Beijing
Under the support and guidance of UN headquarter, NPC and CPPCC, the 6th (China) World Economic and Environmental Conference (the 6th WEC), co-organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA), NDRC International Cooperation Center, supported by MEP Foreign Cooperation Center, International Economic and Trade Relationship Department of MOFCOM, is scheduled to be held on November 28-30, 2013. As an annual high-level summit , the 6th WEC, titled as "move towards green and low-carbon road, deepen industrial reform, keep on harmonious development", will once again serves as an exchange and cooperation platform between China and the world in terms of green, ecological, low-carbon and sustainable development.
The 6th WEC is expected to outstrip the past five conferences in size and scale, and attract round 800 attendees from UN system, international organizations, industry and business circles, academic institution, media and so on.
The conference will launch concurrently the appraisal and selection for the 3rd International Carbon-Value Award, which aims to further upgrade low-carbon concept, incorporate it into enterprise brand, and seek the best low-carbon player with extraordinary action value, leading role and model image.
The 5th WEC proposed that governmental and non-governmental organizations should enhance exchange and cooperation, work together so as to establish sound regulatory policy, incentive mechanism and operational mode conducive for instigating enterprise's initiative and passion. At the same time, we should push forward the application and popularization of energy-conservation and environmental-protection technology, deepen international cooperation on low-carbon technology transfer and green trading, improve the consciousness of public involvement, create a new outlook with open and positive attitude, effective measures, with a view to achieve sustainable development of global economy and environment, create benefit for the future.
The establishment of WEC was derived from the concept of "Green New Deal" proposed by the United Nations in 2008. It is an annual international summit with the focus on China's economic and environmental fields, with the aim of establishing a harmonious mode between economy and environment. As an annual summit, each WEC comprises 10 thematic forums and industry meetings. To date, WEC has been successfully held for 5 times, and attracted altogether round 4000 attendees from 60 countries and over 30 international organizations, government agencies, professional societies and associations and so on.
