1st China Future Energy Forum Held in Beijing

On 30th,Nov., the 1stChina Future Energy Forum (CFEF), entitled as “Value Creation in the Energy Industry”, was held in Beijing co-organized by CEIBS and Economy & Nation Weekly and supported by WBCSD. Four sub-forums related to shale gas and energy new revolution, new energy vehicles, green economy-global governance and China pathways, new energy promotion and grid bottleneck, attracted around 150 high-level representatives from government, organizations and NGOs, including Mr. Li Yizhong, Standing Committee Member of CPPCC, Mr. Peter Bakker, President & CEO of WBCSD, Mr. Chen Liming, Board Member of CBCSD and President of BP China, Mr. Johnny Kwan, Board Member of CBCSD and Senior VP of BASF Group, Mr. Nobuo Tanaka, Former Executive Director of IEA, etc..

Mr. Peter Bakker, WBCSD President & CEO, made a keynote speech titled by “How Business can take the Lead and Drive Action through the Energy Value Chain”. He explained some of the global initiatives that the WBCSD has undertaken to improve sustainable energy consumption and business solutions to environmental and energy sustainability issues. Bakker encouraged China's policy makers to be bold in their efforts to develop large scale solutions to energy issues.

Mr. Chen Liming, CBCSD Board and president of BP China introduced international experience and business model in shale gas development and the possibilities and conditions for bringing in foreign capital to exploit shale gas in China in his presentation of “Shale Gas: A New Revolution in the Energy Sector”.

Mr. Johnny Kwan, CBCSD Board and Senior VP of BASF Group, and Mr. Zhai Qi, Executive Secretary General, shared best practices of business green innovation at the sub-forum of “Green Economy-Global Governance and China Pathways”. Mr. Kwan explained the integrated green and innovation strategy of BASF and its vision to promote corporate social responsibility. He reckoned that communication between company and the society is very important, only if the company promote CSR together with its supply chain, green economy could have the chance to be achieved. Mr. Zhai introduced “energy saving and business actions” and shared effort and practices of Chinese business on climate change, toxic emission, fresh water usage and sustainable lifestyle.


Representatives all agreed that business is urgently in need of optimized cooperation with governments to stimulate scale-up solutions and innovation in order to confront issues of energy shortages and environmental pollutions.
