Statistical Office of The Republic of Slovenia : Sustainable development indicators, Slovenia, 2012 – final data

The sustainable development indicators are grouped into three sections: Well-being, Balance and modesty, and Intergenerational cooperation. Each section is described through environmental, economic and social aspects.

Well-being - in 2012 the available assets (income in cash) of households per household member increased by 8% compared to 2010

Besides the material goods, well-being refers also to the human welfare, living and relationships. It is described with quality of natural resources, economic growth and safety.
In 2012 the number of days with the exceeded daily threshold value of particulate matter PM10 decreased everywhere in Slovenia, except in Koper where it increased to 23 days (by 2 days compared to the previous year). The share of agricultural holdings with organic farming or in conversion also increased; to 3.6% (0.4 of a percentage point more than in 2011). The available assets of households per household member also increased; they amounted to EUR 8,516 or almost 8% more than in 2010.
In 2012 the real GDP growth per capita again decreased by 2.7% compared to the previous year. At the same time the registered unemployment rate increased to 12%, which is 0.2 of a percentage point more than in 2011. Balance and modesty - in 2012 the final energy consumption per capita decreased by 13% compared to the previous year

The balance reflects the needs of humanity and the capacity of nature. Of the great importance are modesty and awareness of the limits of available resources. Balance and modesty are described with natural resources, research and development, and population, gender equality and poverty.
In 2012, compared to 2011, the final energy consumption per citizen decreased by 13%, while the share of renewables in final energy consumption increased by 0.6 of a percentage point, i.e. from 12.2% to 12.8%.
The natural increase was positive, namely 1.3 per 1,000 population.

Intergenerational cooperation - the intensity of wood removals decreased to 46.5% in 2012

The most important question regarding intergenerational solidarity and cooperation is what we are going to leave behind for our children in all respects. So the intergenerational cooperation was summarised and described with the intensity of use of natural resources, government debt and care for all generations.
In 2012, compared to 2011, the consumption of macro plant nutrients in agriculture per hectare of utilised agricultural area decreased by 8% (to 96 kg/ha). The intensity of wood removals also decreased to 46.5% or by 0.6 of a percentage point.
The general government debt increased again to 54.4% of GDP or by 7 percentage points compared to 2011.
Compared to 2011, the age dependency ratio again increased by 2%, both for the young (1.4%) as well as for the old (2.1%). The main messages shown by indicators are published on the updated
website on sustainable development indicators.
