Shanghai, China– November 15, 2013 –BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, will showcase its innovative, energy-efficient solutions for window insulation including a wide range of window thermal barriers, as well as a new lightweight metal substitution for window profile, at Fenestration China 2013 in Shanghai.
Thermal insulation of windows is crucial to energy-efficient construction. “Demand is rising for energy-efficient solutions for the construction industry, in particular in the area of window insulation. With our broad portfolio of innovative product offerings for window manufacturers, BASF is well positioned to develop effective solutions that address the current and future needs of the industry,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lou, Vice President, Business Management, Greater China, BASF.
New lightweight performance materials for window frames contribute to energy-efficient construction
At Fenestration China 2013, BASF will introduce a composite window frame made with Elastocoat® PU, a lightweight Polyurethane. Elastocoat PU’s inherent low thermal conductivity contributes to a more energy-efficient construction as it provides effective window insulation. Elastocoat PU acts as a thermal barrier that dramatically reduces heat loss and effectively prevents the transfer of outside climatic conditions into the building’s interior. Additionally, window frames made with Elastocoat PU are corrosion-resistant and provide high tensile strength compared to steel.
Window thermal barriers help improve energy efficiency through effective window insulation
A key highlight at Fenestration China 2013 is Elasturan®, a polyurethane based window thermal barrier that dramatically reduces heat loss by breaking the thermal bridge in aluminum windows frames. Elasturan helps to conserve internal temperatures, reducing energy required for heating or cooling. Additionally, it helps to control the movement of water vapor and moisture in and out of the building, which further minimizes the risk of condensation. As such, Elasturan can even help prolong a building’s life, as it protects against premature deterioration of building materials.
Another BASF solution for window thermal barrier is Ultramid® PA window insulation strips. With outstanding sealing properties, a high expansion coefficient, hardness, impact strength and transverse tensile strength, Ultramid PA window insulation strips are widely recognized as an efficient window thermal barrier. Additionally, the transverse tensile strength of Ultramid PA window strips is over 30 percent higher than the national standard, which greatly improves its safety profile.
