Oil reserves to grow by 900 mln tons each year

China's oil reserves would grow by 900 million to 1 billion tons and natural gas reserves by 400 billion to 450 billion cubic meters each year during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, according to Ma Fucai, deputy director of the State Energy Office. This can ensure stable oil and gas production and certain growth.

Ma said at the China Industrial Development High-level Forum that China's resources make it possible for the country to rely its energy on domestic supply. Proved oil reserves have reached 24.8 billion tons, natural gas 4.4 trillion cubic meters and coal reserves have exceeded 1 trillion tons.

China would step up exploitation and utilization of oil shale and oil sand resources to form production capabilities as soon as possible.
