China Hosts First Workshop on GHG Data Quality Management in Beijing

At the end of 2012, WRI and CNIS launched the first program on China’s GHG data quality management to look for ways to increase GHG data quality in China and support carbon market construction. A preliminary study finds that data quality management at the business level (Enterprise Level) is the cornerstone of GHG reporting. Comprehensive improvement of business-level (Enterprise Level) data quality can benefit carbon trading, as well as the development and reporting of regional and national GHG inventories.

On October 22, 2013, the team held a consultation workshop in Beijing, attended by experts from the Department of Climate Change of NDRC, the Center for Climate Change Strategic Research and International Cooperation, the Energy Research Institute of NDRC and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. WRI also invited to the workshop experienced GHG data accounting and certification organizations including China Quality Certification Center, Sino Carbon Innovative & Investment (SCII) and SGS. The experts recognized the significance of the research, expressed support for the preliminary findings and offered recommendations on missing data, uncertainty analysis, audit evidence and quality assurance.
