New Energy Industry to Maintain Rapid Development

On the International Forum on Energy Security held in Beijing recently, Yangkun, the general engineer of the National Energy Board(NEB) told that china’s new energy industry will maintain rapid development in 5 or more years in the future with wind power installed capacity of 15 million kilowatts at least and solar power installed capacity of about 10 million kilowatts per year.
Yang says that developing new energy industry holds high costs in terms of cost per KW of installed capacity and operation cost. However, it is an inevitable choice for china’s energy industry restructuring on the background of current coal-dominated energy structure.
For the solar energy, Zhang Yuqing, the deputy director of the NEB notes that solar photovoltaic power generation industry has become worldwide emerging industry. In 2012, global solar photovoltaic power generation installed capacity reached 101 million kilowatts and commercial applications of solar thermal power technology is starting steadily.
Yang also notes that U.S. shale gas revolution has greatly impacts the world energy supply and consuming patterns. China’s shale gas development should be a key direction of the technic development in energy industry.
