China will implement national carbon emissions trading scheme in 2017

In the recent revealed US-China Joint Presidential Statement on Climate Change, China plans to activate national carbon emissions trading system in 2017, covering key industries, such as steel and iron, power, chemicals, building materials, papermaking and nonferrous metals. The Statement indicated that China has committed itself to low-carbon building and transportation and sustainable targets, such as 50% of new buildings in urban areas will reach green standards by 2020, and 30% of mobilized mobility will be by public transport in large and medium-sized cities.
