Ningxia starts 14 bln yuan of 29 new-energy projects

The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on May 30 kicked off construction on 29 new-energy projects with a total investment of around 14 billion yuan, China Knowledge reported.

 

The investment will account for 60% of the region's total energy investment in 2011.

 

Of the 29 projects, 23 wind power projects will cost a total of 12 billion yuan and will have an installed capacity totaling 1.53 gigawatts. The remaining six projects are designed to have a total installed solar power capacity of 100 megawatts and will cost 2 billion yuan in total.

 

Ningxia, which has estimated capacity of 22.53 GW in wind power and about 17.5 GW in solar power, aims to have an installed capacity of 5 GW in wind power and 600,000 kilowatts in solar power by the end of 2015.

 

On May 30, the Ningxia government also signed a cooperative agreement with Chinese Academy of Sciences or CAS for technology upgrading in the new-energy industry.
