From July 11 to 16, 2013 in Qingdao, the China Water team conducted its third round of field study. The team visited the key water supplies of Qingdao as well as major industrial end users, including Xianjiazhai Water Plant, Laoshan Reservoir, Qingdao Water Resource Management and Distribution Center, Datang Huangdao Power Plant, Dongjiakou Port, Pingdu Chemical and Industrial Park and Jiaozhou Water-Saving Irrigation Demonstration Area, to learn more about project construction, environmental protection, service area, technology application and management status quo of water sources in Qingdao.
The Water team has now finished its first draft of Water-Energy Nexus Analysis in Qingdao’s Selection of Urban Water Sources. In the analysis, the WRI team identifies Qingdao’s water supply potential, evaluates pros and cons of Qingdao’s current and proposed water sources by looking into water availability, water usage trend, energy consumption. In addition, the analysis covers water demand of 2020 and associated energy use has been discussed through scenario studies. The Qingdao analysis will inform decision makers on sustainable low-carbon water supply strategies and water sources allocation. After going through our internal quality control process, WRI China will submit the report to relevant agencies and experts in Qingdao for review.
